Are all these signings enough?

Are all these signings enough?

It is official. Carlos Tevez from Manchester United, Emmanuel Adebayor from Arsenal and Roque Santa Cruz from Blackburn are officially players of Manchester City FC. They have all signed deals in the last couple of days, and the majority of them will be among the most paid players in the club.

We can’t help but notice that all that’s Manchester City doing is bringing attacking players. That would be totally okay if they had a strong midfield and defensive lines. However, that’s not the case. Sometimes it seems that Mark Hughes doesn’t know what he’s doing. I understand that the club officials want to bring in big names to make the club more recognizable on an international level; however, that’s not the right way to go. Bringing in 3 attackers, and not bringing defensive or midfield players is a mistake, having in mind that the latter two lines of the squad aren’t that good. On the other hand, the attacking line was the strongest line of the team in the past season, but most of the money is spent on bringing attackers.

So, inevitable is the question whether MCFC will be able to compete with the leading teams like Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal? Will it make it to secure a place in the Champions League this season? It will be hard. The rivals are very strong — in every line of the squad. Let’s hope that Hughes has an idea, and that he’s not just bringing in players for no purpose.
